We’re checking out a couple of new movies to watch this weekend and getting you into the back-to-school spirit with our favorite school-themed films.
Movie Reviewer Greg Russell joined co-host Jason Carr on “Live in the D” with a few sneak peeks.
First, let’s start with the comedy with a familiar face from “This Is Us.” Sterling K. Brown and Regina Hall are in the comedy “Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul.” This is about a minister and his wife, who were megachurch people who got into some trouble. They leave the church and decide to hold church services in the middle of the street in order to rebuild themselves, so they were shouting “honk for Jesus.” Greg gives this film four out of five reels because it is both entertaining and a guilty pleasure.
Next, a new Netflix movie called “Love in the Villa” has an influence from “Romeo and Juliet,” which takes place in Juliet’s hometown of Verona, Italy. The film begins with a young lady who has just broken up with her fiancé and is renting an Airbnb in Verona. When she arrives, a guy who rented the place at the same time is already there. They were bickering at first, but eventually develope a romance. Greg gives this film three out of five reels.
Finally, it’s back-to-school season, and Carr and Russell thought they’d share a couple of movies to get everyone back into the swing of things, whether you started back this week or after Labor Day. Russell named “Breakfast Club” as his favorite school movie, noting that it features an eclectic group of people. Carr named “Back to School” with Rodney Dangerfield as his favorite.
