Mr Obadiah Nkom, Director-General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Abuja, has been honoured with an award by the Kaduna State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (KADCHMA).
The award was presented to him on behalf of the agency by the Administrator of the Kafanchan Municipal Authority, Mrs Phoebe Yayi, on Monday in Manchok, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Director-General of KADCHMA, Malam Abubakar Hassan, said that the award was in recognition of Nkom’s valuable contributions and supports to vulnerable people in the area of basic healthcare.
According to him, Nkom enrolled over 200 people into the state’s health care scheme and paid their annual bill.
He called on other well spirited individuals and organisations to emulate the good gesture by taking advantage of the scheme to help vulnerable people.
“Nkom saw the need to key into the health insurance programme of the state government and assisted the vulnerable people in his community.
“This is a show of good will and it is important that we come here, not just to recognise him but to ensure the recipients get their cards,” he added
He noted that the state government had pledged one per cent of its consolidated revenue fund towards ensuring that vulnerable groups were covered under the scheme.
Similarly, Yayi described the award as a welcome development that would further encourage other sons and daughters of the town to support vulnerable persons in accessing healthcare.
Yayi stressed that it was only when people were in good health that they would be able to contribute their quota to nation building.
In accepting the award, Nkom, who was represented by Mr Jerry Adams, said he was delighted to have been found worthy of the award by health agency.
He said he decided to help the less privileged within his community not because he wanted to be rewarded but because it was a good thing to do.
According to him, the recognition will spur him to do more for his people and humanity in general.
